When any kind of data is being downloaded in PocketEarth, the Download Panel will appear at the top of the screen over the map (bottom on iPad). Map downloads and updates for places require a WiFi connection, however other small downloads are allowed over cellular. When travelling abroad, we recommend disabling all Cellular Data or Data Roaming in your device's Settings app in the Cellular section.

In PocketEarth map data is downloaded automatically for any location you try to view. Like other online map apps, this data is only saved temporally and may be deleted periodically if it exceeds a certain size.

To download the map for any city, region or country, simply go to the Main Menu, and tap Manage Maps. Locate the map you would like to have and tap on it. The Download section shows available map packages for the place. Select one or more of them and they will be downloaded. This will download all zoom levels and views for offline use. The Offline Maps screen lists all of your downloaded places. To later delete a map, find it in the Offline Maps screen, and swipe to delete or tap to select it and then tap to uncheck the map packages you no longer need in the Downloads section.

Other map package options may be available and installed from the Add-ons screen. Once installed, those options will appear in the Downloads section mentioned above.

If you wish for optional maps packages such as Topo or Wikipedia to be shown when panning on maps that have not been specifically downloaded, enable the setting Automatic Downloads > Download Add-on Content.

In progress downloads are allowed to continue for only 2 minutes after closing the app. If the app is not re-opened within 2 minutes, the downloads will be paused and then resumed once you open the app again.
